The 音乐艺术学院 offers a master’s degree in music composition. 入学须经试镜. Majors receive a weekly private lesson 和 attend a bi-weekly seminar. Works are regularly performed in Student Composers’ Forums. Numerous guest artists visit the campus 和 present lectures 和 give private lessons.

音乐教育 features four specializations:

音乐的历史

The Master of Music in 音乐的历史 allows students to pursue detailed work in music history 和 prepares them for further work in musicology. The program includes courses in specially designed topical seminars. These experiences are reinforced by participation in the departmental ensembles: the Afro-Caribbean Ensemble, 巴厘佳美兰, the Early Music Ensemble 和 the New Music Ensemble.

人种音乐学

The Master of Music in 人种音乐学 is a 32-credit-hour program that includes seminars in ethnomusicology, music history 和 disciplines related to the field such as popular culture, ethnic studies 和 women’s studies. 学生 study history 和 literature of ethnomusicology 和 the music cultures of the Africa 和 the African diaspora, 中东, 中亚, 和 global popular cultures while also receiving training in field methodology 和 various other special topics. The degree offers performance opportunities in Balinese Gamelan, Afro-Caribbean, 和 other ensembles. The program culminates in a final project or thesis 和 prepares students for further work in ethnomusicology.

The Master of Music in 音乐理论 degree totals 32 semester hours 和 normally takes two years to complete. Included are seminars in research techniques, 结构分析, style analysis 和 20-century analysis. Electives 和 independent studies allow students to pursue subjects of special interest to them. Oral examinations in aural skills, bibliography 和 analysis are taken in residence. Study culminates in a final project or thesis.

  The instrumental specialization option consists of a concentration in a major instrument 和 at least two minor instruments within the brass, strings 和 woodwind areas.

  The Master of Music in 爵士乐 Studies' core curriculum is augmented by opportunities to perform that prepare the advanced jazz student to enter the professional arena as a player 和 educator. The graduate student assumes a leadership role in the community 和 is given the opportunity to coach small ensembles as well as teach certain undergraduate classes. This experience enables the graduate student to mentor at the same time they are being mentored.

  The Master of Music in 钢琴 program gives students professional training, through a comprehensive well-designed curriculum, an emphasis on performing as a soloist, chamber musician 和 collaborative pianist, 和 many opportunities to hone their teaching skills in studying piano pedagogy.
